Bio:
As a documentary photographer and instructor at the NCSU Crafts Center, I bring over 25 years of imaging experience. My technique is largely self-cultivated, honed through dedicated practice and select workshops. I specialize in the discipline of street photography. Since 2015, my focus has been on chronicling the vital pulse and human stories within the urban fabric of downtown Raleigh. My photographs aim to unlock the intrigue embedded in everyday life, employing storytelling to forge a resonant connection that draws the viewer into the frame.
Artist Statement:
Thomas Way approaches photography as a means of experiential documentation, capturing reality in its raw, presented state. He frames his surroundings using the fundamentals of storytelling, always seeking to seize the decisive moment when a situation fully reveals itself. Thomas places high value on achieving intimacy with his subjects, dedicating time to conversation or in-depth research. This deliberate preparation enables him to create not only strong, visually compelling images, but also to inject a rich layer of emotion that shares his personal narrative with the viewer.
