Capture the Moment. Overcome the Hesitation. Build Your Vision.

Street photography is more than just a camera and a sidewalk. It’s about the pulse of the city, the play of light, and the courage to capture the "decisive moment" before it’s gone.

Whether you are struggling with the hesitation of shooting in public, looking to master complex compositions, or wanting to develop a unique photographic voice, my 4-Hour Private Street Intensive is designed to bridge the gap between seeing a shot and capturing it.

The 4-Hour Deep Dive

Forget the crowded workshops and generic advice. This is a personalized, one-on-one session tailored specifically to your skill level and creative goals. We don’t just walk; we work the streets together.

  • Direct Portfolio Review: We begin with a focused look at your current work to identify your strengths and set clear, actionable goals for our four hours together.

  • Hands-On Shooting in Raleigh: We will head into the city to find the best light and activity. I’ll show you how to read the street, anticipate movement, and find the extraordinary in the ordinary.

  • Real-Time Coaching: I’ll be right beside you, offering immediate feedback on composition, camera settings, and the technical "how-to" of street work.

  • The Mindset of a Street Photographer: Beyond the gear, we will focus on the psychology of the street—learning how to blend in, how to approach subjects, and how to stay inspired.

Why One-on-One?

Group workshops can be intimidating, and you often get lost in the crowd. In a dedicated 4-hour block, we have the time to:

  • Study the scene and anticipate how elements will come together

  • Practice candid techniques until they become second nature.

  • Deepen your "visual literacy" to see layers and stories where others see chaos.

How to Prepare

To get the most out of our four hours together, please come prepared with the following:

  • Pack Light: Street photography is about agility. I recommend bringing one camera and one versatile prime lens (35mm or 50mm equivalent is ideal). My recommendation is to use a camera that you are most comfortable operating.

  • The Essentials: Ensure your batteries are fully charged and you have a cleared memory card. For film users, please bring at least 3 rolls of 400 speed film.

  • Dress for Movement: We will be on our feet for the duration of the session. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and check the Raleigh forecast to dress in appropriate layers.

  • Your Portfolio: Select 5–10 of your favorite images (or those you have questions about) to show me during our initial review.

  • An Open Mind: The street is unpredictable. Come ready to observe, experiment, and embrace the spontaneous nature of the city.

About Your Instructor: Thomas Way

I am a street photographer based in Raleigh, North Carolina, dedicated to documenting the candid, fleeting moments that define our city. My approach to photography is rooted in observation and the belief that the most compelling stories are often found in the everyday.

With years of experience navigating the streets of Downtown Raleigh, I’ve developed a deep understanding of area's unique light and character. My goal as a mentor isn't to change how you shoot, but to help you refine your vision and build the confidence necessary to capture the world as you see it.

Whether you are shooting digital or film, I look forward to hitting the pavement with you and helping you take your street photography to the next level.
